Legends of the Black Wolf

Belandra and The Four Treasures of the Black Wolves

On the first night in their new homeland, the Tanathar of the Black Wolves, Belandra, was sent a vision by the Black Wolf. In his vision, a falling star hurtled out of the sky and sped low over the new land of the Black Wolves. In its wake across the sky it left four shapes: a silver hammer, a blue chalice, a red heart and a white orb. As Belandra continued to watch, the star came to earth in an explosion of fire that cracked the earth around it. As he looked on, he saw, rising from the crack, the First Shrine.

In the days to follow it came to pass that a star fell from the heavens; it crashed to earth in fire, and the land around it was broken and burnt. From the crater were brought the remains of the star: three stones of rare size embedded in some strange molten metal.

Belandra seeing this as the star from his vision gave instruction that from them be fashioned the objects he had seen in the sky of his vision, and that they be named thus:

  • Othlar: a hammer, which means 'the best';

  • Telwall: a large, uncut red crystal, which means 'the heart';

  • Soular: a clear crystal orb, which means 'knowledge'; and

  • Pathaland: a blue crystal cup, which means 'the way'.

On the site of the crater was raised the shrine to the Black Wolf; it was built the same as the one in the vision, and there shall be no other in the land.

In the years that followed, the shrine became the focus for many pilgrimages; a 'holy of holies' for the Black Wolf nation. To this day, there are those that believe Belandra sleeps deep inside, waiting for the time when he will be called to serve again.
